Steps for Becoming a Compensated Provider for Your Own Child
DDD Grants Authorization for Parents to Offer Habilitation and Attendant Care Services
The Arizona Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) and AHCCCS now introduce a novel approach to assist families in need of Habilitation Care Services and Attendant Care Services for their child. In instances where adequate assistance from other providers is unavailable, parents now have the opportunity to receive compensation for delivering these services themselves.
In 2020, AHCCCS and DDD declared that parents could serve as Temporary Direct Care Workers, receiving payment for providing care to their own children. This initiative aimed to offer parents (or guardians) an alternative means to ensure their child continued receiving Habilitation or Attendant Care services without external providers entering the home during the COVID period. Acknowledging the challenge parents face in juggling other employment while providing these services, DDD permits Parents and Guardians to be compensated for rendering these services. AHCCCS has confirmed that this option will remain available at least until 2024.
